"Runaway Toys"

"Runaway Toys" was written as part of my first play a day challemnge where the brief was to create a play that "Can be produced in isolation. But it should be a play that makes the most out of the situation, rather than feels restricted by it, a play that is still theatrical"

Genre: Comedy/Drama

Timing: 10-15 Minutes

Age Range: 8+

Synopsis:

Katie is in hospital to have her tonsils out and is not thrilled about the idea but she makes some unexpected friends in the form of the contents of a toy chest who help her feel less scared.

Cast: 2M & 4W

Productions History:

May 2023 - Live production by KATS Youth Production (Addlestone, UK)

July 2022 - Live production by the InZone Summer Enrichment Camp in Illinois, USA.

April 2021 - Live production by Chudleigh Amateur Dramatics Society (Youth Division) for a Zoom Performance.

Recommendations:

“I'm rather partial to bringing a Teddy Bear to life.
In RUNAWAY TOYS there are a few more toys bought to life to make one child smile just before her operation. In no time at all they launch into quite an unexpected and funny argument, with the silent Katie looking on in bewilderment. But each toy is there to bring enjoyment to the children and sure enough they find a way to put a smile on Katie's face.
The role of Katie would be wonderful for an aspiring young actress.
BTW, someone needs to have a word with Katie's mum!”

(Christopher Plumridge, Playwright)

“Williams’ play “Runaway Toys” is a cute story that almost feels like a knock off version of ‘Toy Story’, almost as if from Andy’s little sister’s perspective. “Runaway Toys” is a marvellous piece that will keep kids (young and old) entertained, and I’m not just talking about the toys. Bravo! In the words of ‘GI Joe’…”Mission Accomplished Ma’am!””

(Jaxson Mackling, Playwright)

“This was a super heartwarming story that shows us the delicacy of a child's mind, and how they sometimes rely on their imagination to make them feel better. I love the use of the toys as actual characters, and I think the toys used matched their personality and also helped fuel the piece. Rachel Feeny-Williams created a simple yet brilliant work with this piece.”

(Cole Hunter Dzubak, Playwright)

"Monday's Child"

"Monday's Child" was written as part of my 'New Year, New Words' play a day challenge in January 2022. The challenge was to write a play every day inspired by a word. The word in this case was 'Sunday'.

Genre: Comedy

Timing: 10-15 Minutes

Age Range: 8+

Synopsis:

Mrs Lennox is preparing her class for their performance of the poem "Monday's Child" with some 'interesting' interpretations.

Cast: 4M & 4W

Productions History:

May 2023 - Live Production, KATS Production, Addlestone, UK

Recommendations:

“I loved the children's interpretations of their respective lines in the play. Even not knowing what a word means (woe) results in a wonderfully skewed adaptation of the line into a costume that leads to clumsily learning what the word really means. Rachel Feeny-Williams gives us a little treat here and I'm wondering if it would be better with actual children in the roles or adults playing at children (as Feeny-Williams gives directors the option). Both ways would lead to some great comic possibilities.”

(John Busser, Director of Free Theatre Company Production)

“Poor Mrs. Lennox has to maintain an appropriate professional and nurturing demeanor in the face of some overly literal and some non sequiturish costuming choices made by her young charges. The kids are realistic and endearing and this play is quite charming.”

(Paul Donnelly, Playwright)

“MONDAY’S CHILD is an adorable short play with roles perfect for children, although adults playing these parts would be fun, too. Centered around a children’s poem, Rachel Feeny-Williams has included wonderful adult-level humor (and some important life lessons) that will keep audience members of all ages entertained. I would love to see this performed!”

(Enid Cokinos, Playwright)

“I howled! For any teacher who has neglected to give their charges (and their parents) clear costume instructions or not had the time to actually teach what they're meant to produce in public, I felt for the teacher in this lovely short piece by Rachel Feeny-Williams. But then I felt for every student too. That's the sign of a super piece. Great fun ”

(Nora Louise Syran, Playwright)

“Star Light, Star Bright is a truly charming piece for all ages. Whether on a stage, as a best-selling children's book, or the perfect cartoon short - THIS PIECE DELIVERS all the feels. The message is clear, we all find ourselves at different rates, but the wait is worth it when the outcome is true and full of love and light. BRAVO, Rachel! Your pieces bring such joy to audiences and readers.”

(Debra A. Cole, Playwright)

“STAR LIGHT, STAR BRIGHT is a wonderfully touching play and a gentle reminder--for children and adults--that each of us blossoms in our own time. And when that time finally arrives, oh, how we shine! Rachel Feeny-Williams has written a true treasure for the whole family to enjoy. This will be a lovely addition to any short play festival.”

(Enid Cokinos, Playwright)

“Awww, this is a brilliant, gorgeous little family piece to tug at the heart strings. It’s also the opportunity for a director and lighting designer to convey its sincere and warm message inventively. The perfect tender and empathetic antidote In an age of youngsters competing for the perfect social media and prom image which will delight parents and children alike!”

"Wish I May"

"Wish I May" was written as a sequel to "Star Light, Star Bright".

Genre: Drama

Timing: 20-30 Minutes

Age Range: 8+

Synopsis:

Amanda Twinkle is a wishing star with a curiosity about humans and Ben is a human boy whose father doesn’t seem to have any time for him anymore and one night, a wish brings them together.

Cast: 5M & 2W

Productions History:

Recommendations:

“Magical and full of whimsy. The premise alone is worth the read, but it’s the uncommon friendship which launches this piece into greatness. Do yourself a favour and read this gem.”

(Christopher Soucy, Playwright)

“A lovely, delightful story of a shining friendship. Rachel Feeny-Williams’ imagination knows no bounds as she reaches for the stars to bring us this charming tale. I smiled throughout as I was reminded of the song “Catch a Falling Star” from my early childhood. My wish is that this play is read and performed often for many years to come.”

(Morey Norkin, Playwright)

“How often do humans look up in wonder at the stars? The creative Rachel Feeny-Williams gives us a delightful story that considers another perspective – stars wondering about humans. At its heart, the story is about relationships. New friends. Parents and children. And siblings. Lighting and costume designers will jump at the chance to work on this show which will be great fun for everyone in the theatre.”

(Kim E. Ruyle, Playwright)

“I loved this brilliant story. It is very reminiscent of Star Dust, sans the witch. Rachel has a way with story telling that keeps you entertained and riveted to the story. Who else could write a star as the protagonist!”

Golden Star

"The Star"

"The Star" was written as part of my 'Lets Write' play a day challenge in April 2021. The aim here was to write a play a day inspired by a GIF, which in this case was a rather moody image of Kanye West.

Genre: Comedy

Timing: 10-20 Minutes

Age Range: 12+

Synopsis:

Directing and Producing a school musical is stressful enough but Mrs Bennet and Ms Mason really have their work cut out for them with Lisa (or is it Liza?) and her ‘determination’ to play the lead, one way or the other!

Cast: 1M & 4W

Productions History:

July 2023 - Production by Next Generation Theatre, Cullompton, Devon

Recommendations:

"Those in educational theatre will recognize many of the characters in this wonderful short play. The witty banter, the strong characterizations, and beautifully paced storyline will delight audiences of all ages!"

(Debra A. Cole, Playwright)

“Anyone who was involved with their High School drama club will relate to this super funny play immediately. It is spot on! I recognized each character in this play as someone from my youth. Nostalgic, well-paced and laugh-out-loud funny.”

(Ben Rosenblatt, Playwright)

“A hilarious play revolving around the personalities and culture of putting on a high school production. The characters are well drawn, and the plot relates to anyone who attended high school and saw the selfishness and egotistic power plays that occurred.”

(Ross Tedford Kendall, Playwright)

"Happy Deathday to Me!

"Happy Deathday to Me!" was written as part of my first play a day challenge where the brief was to write a play "inspired by the Jewish holiday if Purim".

Age Range: 15+

Synopsis:

Esther (a seventeen year old who died protecting her younger sister) is now a tequila swilling ghost set on earning her place in the afterlife by helping Lilly (a young girl being bullied).

Cast: 1M & 3W

Productions History:

March 2022 - Performed by Blairgowrie Players Youth Group in Blairgowrie Town Hall, Scotland.

February 2022 - Performed by Blairgowrie Players Youth Group at the Scottish Community Association Festival

Recommendations:

“A wonderful little piece about standing up for yourself (even if it took you getting help from a guardian angel). The title did not prepare me for what this charming little play turned out to be. Teaching the importance of not just letting life's bullies bury you under their bullsh*t, Rachel Feeny-Williams gives us some terrific roles for women all-too-often the target. This piece says some important things.”

(John Busser, Playwright)

“A hard lesson for bully victims about standing up to their oppressors. Kindly written and to the point. Makes me want to see more about Esther--she's so fascinating!”

(George Sapio, Playwright)

“"Happy deathday to me" takes an unconventional approach to guardian angel stories. Ripe for witty interpretation on stage, this play has the potential to teach while it entertains. There's a lot for a good cast and director to work with here!”

The Girl in the Mirror.png

"The Girl in The Mirror"

"The Girl in the Mirror" was written as part of my 'Words, Words, Words' play a day challenge in September 2021 where the aim was to write a play a day inspired by one word and the word here was 'Mirror.

Genre: Thriller/Horror

Timing: 15-20 Minutes

Age Range: 15+

Synopsis:

Hannah is devastated when her family move her to her grandmother’s former house and make her start a new school…but then she meets Sarah, the girl in the mirror.

Cast:  3W (1 Voice offstage, could be recorded)

Productions History:

October 2021 - 2nd Place in The Surfside Playhouse 10 Minute Play Compedition

Recommendations:

“THE GIRL IN THE MIRROR is genuinely creepy, tense and disturbing. What begins as a strange but innocent meeting of 2 young ladies a century apart, turns into something quite sinister. With the right budget and some clever effects this could be staged as a wonderful, scary piece of theatre.”

(Christopher Plumridge, Playwright)

“To go too into detail on the brilliance of Feeny-Williams' horror short would be to give it away. Rest assured, however, that it treats us (and leaves us) with the lessons of any classic story with an old, mysterious mirror: don't take for granted what you have, and be careful what you wish for. A great treat for some younger actors to really let loose and play, this is a piece that would be a hit at any spooky festival. Definitely check it out.”

(Daniel Prillaman, Playwright)

“Attics as repositories of the past are ideal settings for drama and who doesn't love a good mirror tale? THE GIRL IN THE MIRROR highlights the lives of two teenagers, Sarah and Hannah, and contrasts the harsh work-life of an Edwardian parlour maid with the school-life of a modern, spoilt adolescent. Rachel Feeny-William centers young women in this slow-burning horror shocker. It would be great fun for young and old, as we're all acquainted with ingratitude where it rears up most hideously, in our own reflections. What this play does best is hold up a mirror to modern society.”

(Charles Scott Jones, Playwright)

“The suspense in this short play builds creepily, and just when I thought I felt sure I knew where it was going, Rachel spins things and hits me with an ending that is both a surprise and entirely fitting! No easy feat, to be sure. This would be perfect for a Halloween or horror-themed festival, but it also could stand alone as a wonderful drama that's also a scary take on morality tales. Would love to see this staged!”

(William Triplett, Playwright)

“What a great little piece with a spooky twist! I like how the story draws you in before hitting you with the climax. Be careful what you wish for!”

(Ross Tedford Kendall, Playwright)

"Life Choices"

"Life Choices" was written as part of my most recent play a day challenge where the aim was to write a play 'inspired by Theatre of the Oppressed'.

Genre: Drama/Dark Comedy

Timing: 15 - 20 Minutes

Age Range: 16+

Synopsis:

The female students of Jovial James High School are about to finish high school and believe they have all their choices laid out before them. Unbeknownst to them, all of that is about to change.

Cast:1M & 5W

Productions History:

Recommendations:

“A powerful piece that has multiple layers to it. What initially begins as a 1984-esque play about how controlling the government can be, transitions into a play that shows how our lives can change based on the cards we dealt. I would love to see this play performed as it would certainly get audiences talking!”

(Ryan Kaminski, Playwright)

“As if governments aren’t already doing too much to control women’s lives, here comes the Life Choices initiative! Yikes! Rachel Feeny-Williams has created one scary and disheartening prospect for young females graduating high school. Although it’s left unsaid, one has to assume that the guys get to make their own life choices. This play will get your blood boiling and leave audiences taking!”

(Morey Norkin, Playwright)

“Oh.... what a twisted future we will have in the hands of RACHEL FEENY-WILLIAMS unless we all start paying attention. Okay...it isn't RACHEL who will be causing this chaos, but in a world where we are constantly deciding who has rights and who doesn't, LIFE CHOICES is a true cautionary tale. VOTE. FIGHT. SPEAK.”

"My Friend"

"My Friend" was written as part of my 'New Year, New Words' play a day challenge in January 2022. The challenge was to write a play every day inspired by a word. The word in this case was 'Make'.

Genre: Drama/Horror

Timing: 20-30 Minutes

Age Range: 16+

Synopsis:

School is a nightmare for Becky as she is bullied and tormented every day. All she wants is to find a friend but she soon learns that you should be careful what you wish for.

Cast: 6W

Productions History:

Recommendations:

“So much happens in this psychological horror drama! Once again, RFW launches the story at a quick pace – and it only gets quicker. I was kept off-balance as to how the story with the awful school mates would play out, and flat out surprised by the ending. Very atmospheric, very un-nerving, and very interesting!”

(William Triplett, Playwright)

“Creepy...relatable....and just plain messed up, Rachel Feeny-Williams has done it again! I had the pleasure of hearing this as a part of the Sunday Literary & Discourse Society gathering. Feeny-Williams has such an effortless way of creating tension and the right amount of anxiety is a short piece. Audiences will adore this creative piece.”

(Debra A. Cole, Playwright)

"RACHEL FEENY-WILLIAMS has once again written a meaningful, interesting, and cleverly written play, “My Friend”. It is a moving piece with intense emotions and delves into the issue of bullying. I always enjoy reading and watching Rachel’s plays. This one is another one of her gems.”

(Jack Levine, Playwright)

“Absolutely, spine-chillingly, wonderfully, creepy. "My Friend" is a fantastic tale of the consequences of bullying, and the tragedy that occurs when the bullied finds a way to strike back in the only way she knows. Rachel Feeney-Williams does so much with atmosphere and staging that this would be a director's and actor's dream to put on stage. Bravo! ”

(Adam Richter, Playwright)

“This is a Twilight Zone/horror play for pre-teen/teen performers! A creepy story about a crocheted golem made to protect a young girl from her bullies. It also touches on the mental anguish a child can feel from isolation and constant harassment from their peers. A fun show to design and for student performers to really go all out with!”

(Jacquelyn Floyd-Priskorn, Playwright)

"Such a Waste"

"Such a Waste" was written as part of my 'Words, Words, Words' play a day challenge in September 2021 where the aim was to write a play a day inspired by one word and the word here was 'Waste'.

Genre: Comedy

Timing: 10-15 Minutes

Age Range: 16+

Synopsis:

Brad, a college boy who thinks he’s gods gift to women, meets his match when he meets Jennifer!

Cast: 3M & 2W

Productions History:

October 2022 - Virtual Production by 'States of Play', USA

Recommendations:

“College hunk Brad has met his match in Jennifer, just not in the way he hoped. Turns out Jennifer has her own plans for Brad and his fraternity buddies. A clever, fun-filled short where true love and animals are the winners. Enjoy!”

(Morey Norkin, Playwright)

“Poor Brad learns that he's finally not all that. Rachel Feeny-Willaims' comedy, SUCH A WASTE will not be a waste of your time in the theater! It's a great college comedy that has a lot of humor and some really nice dialogue between Brad and Jennifer. A nice twist at the end that just adds to Brad's ego being hurt. This play is pure witty fun!”

(Brenton Kniess, Playwright)

This is the seventh play in Rachel Feeny-Williams's collection "My Chatter" and while it starts quite innocuously, it smacks of Cyrano de Bergerac in Jennifer's whittling Brad down to size. Great fun for the actors to play and full of lessons worth learning, for us all. Bravo!”

(Nora Louise Syran, Playwright)

“This is a delightful play with a fun twist at the end. Brad is so sure of himself. He expects all girls will gladly succumb to his looks and charms. In a fun piece, RACHEL FEENY-WILLIAMS brilliantly blows up Brad’s expectations. This will be a totally fun play for the male and female lead roles. “Such A Waste” is a gem!”
